Cadillac has shown off the spectacular Ciel concept at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show

ou’re looking at the spectacular Cadillac Ciel concept, one of the less likely stars of the Frankfurt motor show. It was first unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance last month, and is said to be ‘inspired by the natural beauty of California’s coast’. Dubious inspiration aside, it has to be said it’s a stunning-looking car.

Power comes from a 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre V6 - with 425bhp and 430lb ft – paired with the hybrid system that no fashionable motorshow concept can do without.

It’s a four-door convertible with rear-hinged ‘suicide’ rear doors, and considering it’s over five metres in length, should boast plenty of room for occupants front and rear – each housed in an individual bucket seat. The suitably lavish interior features olive wood, machined aluminium and several cows’ worth of leather. Neat touches include pullout blankets for all three passengers which automatically retract when no longer required.

Of course, Cadillac has plenty of form when it comes to teasing us with gorgeous concepts that never make it to production, a fate that seems almost certain to befall the spectacular Ciel.
