European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8

The new high-performance Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 makes its European debut at the 2011 International Frankfurt Motor Show. Combining legendary Jeep capability and utility with head-turning ‘Street and Racing Technology’ performance, the SRT8 is powered by an all-new 6.4-litre HEMI® V-8 engine, producing 470 bhp and 630 Nm of torque, and making the new flagship model the most powerful, high-performance Jeep vehicle ever produced.

Available in Jeep UK dealerships from the first quarter of 2012, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 features advanced new active damping suspension, which is managed by the new Selec-Track system to optimise road handling, in addition to a new system which allows Fuel Saver Technology to ensure a 13-percent improvement in motorway fuel efficiency and a 450 mile range. Meanwhile, the lowered profile, race-inspired interior and exclusive SRT steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters give a performance-orientated feel to the Jeep flagship model.

Designed and built using the proven SRT (Street Racing Technology) formula that raises performance to dramatic levels, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 accelerates from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, 0-100-0 mph in the mid-16 second range, and has a top speed of over 155 mph.

Powering the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is Chrysler Group’s all-new 6.4-litre HEMI® V-8 with Fuel Saver Technology that delivers 470 bhp and 630 Nm of torque – an improvement of 50 horsepower and 61 Nm torque over the 6.1-litre HEMI V-8 it replaces.

For 2011, all Jeep Grand Cherokee models boast improved and refined on-road ride thanks in part to the vehicle’s body structure – torsional stiffness was improved 146 percent versus the previous model. However, Jeep engineers have improved on-road handling even further, with the Grand Cherokee SRT8 featuring a new SRT-tuned, active damping suspension managed by the new Jeep Selec-Track system – allowing drivers to manually choose between five dynamic modes for specific driving conditions.

In the UK, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 will become available in one specification. On top of the unique SRT8 items, standard equipment will offer some of the most technologically advanced features available today, including: Quadra-Trac active on-demand four-wheel drive transfer system, Command-View® dual-pane sunroof, Uconnect satellite navigation system, adaptive cruise control, 20-inch forged aluminium wheels, blind-spot monitoring with Rear Cross-path detection and new SRT high-performance vented Brembo brakes.

The exterior of the SRT8 is characterised by a lowered (3 cm), more aggressive profile and reveals the unmistakable Jeep personality and unique SRT DNA. LED multi-function daytime running lamps amplify the look of the high performance Jeep, while exclusive SRT features add to the masculine image – complemented by hood mounted dual black heat extractors for added engine cooling. At the rear, the SRT performance influence continues with a new liftgate spoiler, air diffuser and a dual-sport exhaust system featuring 10 cm exhaust tail pipes.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee’s refined, exclusive interior takes on a performance feel in SRT8 form with race-inspired technology and SRT-exclusive appointments including carbon fibre accent inserts, paddle-shift gear controls, Electronic Vehicle Information Centre (EVIC) and new SRT-styled Nappa leather and suede seats.

As would be expected with any Jeep, as part of the standard equipment the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 offers a vast array of safety and security features.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee with shooting expert Claire Zambuni

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is to make its first ever appearance at the CLA Game Fair, the world’s largest country sports and pursuits event.

With more than 140,000 visitors from across the globe, and incorporating the UK’s largest shooting and fishing shows, the Game Fair, which this year is situated at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, is an ideal venue for the new Jeep flagship, which was launched in Britain last month.

It will be driven there by Claire Zambuni, owner of The Shooting Society and The Covert Girls, who is recognised as one of the UK’s leading ladies in shooting, and is listed in The Field magazine’s 100 Best Shots Ever. Claire is a new ambassador for the Jeep brand and drives a Grand Cherokee Limited.

Designed on a new platform to offer the driver premium on-road performance coupled with legendary capability off-road, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee has significantly lower emissions and improved fuel consumption figures when compared with its predecessor.

Its new 3.0-litre V6 CRD diesel engine powers the car from 0-62 mph in just 8.2 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 126 mph, yet the 237bhp unit returns 34.0 mpg on the combined cycle.

The Grand Cherokee range starts at £36,795 OTR for the 3.0 CRD V6 Limited, rising to £43,995 for the 3.0 CRD V6 Overland.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to drive a new Grand Cherokee,” says Claire Zambuni, who is a council member of the BASC (British Association for Shooting and Conservation), Chairman of the London BASC Social Committee, and a member of The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers.

“Grand Cherokee’s eye-catching design is stunning, with a wonderful combination of size, versatility, comfort and superb four-wheel drive capability. All of these elements are vital in a car for field sports, and at a price that makes sense for such a good combination of a city and country vehicle. It will be a top choice for people with outdoor jobs like me.”

The CLA Game Fair 2011 will be held from 22-24 July.
