2012 Gumpert Tornante Review

2012 Gumpert Tornante
Italian design firm Touring Superleggera and German supercar manufacturer Gumpert have unveiled the mid-engine Tornante sports car at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. Powered by an Audi-sourced drivetrain, the 2-passenger coupe goes on sale in 2012. Gumpert says the “basic version” of the Tornante will have 700 bhp, with an “alternate” to the twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter V-8-powered model on the way. Expect that to be another Audi engine, most likely a version of the V-10 powerplant used in the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo.
A 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is standard on the Tornante. According to Gumpert, the transmission is capable of changing gears in only 40 milliseconds. The space frame chassis is derived from the one currently used in the Gumpert Apollo, with the objective being to make the Gumpert Tornante more comfortable and easier to live with everyday.
The Gumpert Tornante’s cabin now offers its occupants 25 percent more room than the cramped confines found in the Gumpert Apollo. Luggage room has also been improved. The B-pillars have been moved back 3.9 inches and the lateral chassis members around the door openings have been lowered by 3.1 inches, to allow easier access via new (and wider) gull-wing doors.
Extra heat insulation and soundproofing, along with double-layer glass, help to reduce noise levels and heat buildup. The capacity of the ventilation system has also been improved. Fully adjustable seats with 4-point belts are now standard, while the height of the floor has been raised by 0.7 inches. All in all, the Tornante promises to be far more livable and refined than the raucous Apollo.
The exterior of Gumpert Tornante is also a vast improvement over the Apollo’s chunky and somewhat crude design. Touring has provided the Tornante with a smoother and leaner look—though the side windows remain too small and rear visibility won’t be helped with that split-glass rear window. The air intakes are better integrated into the bodywork than they are in the Apollo. Yet the front grille and headlights still look too unfinished in our opinion.
The Gumpert Tornante will likely be priced similarly to the Apollo—which according to Gumpert will remain in production, though we’re not certain why. Expect to pay approximately $400,000 for a base Gumpert Tornante when it arrives next year.

The Batmobile by Putsch Racing with (video)

The New Batmobile
With the release of the first Dark Knight Rises trailer, it seemed appropriate to commemorate the occasion by showing you Batman’s original cinematic vehicle. Of course, this one has been pumped up to turbocharged levels.
Yes, we’re talking about the original Batmobile that appeared in Tim Burton’s Batman movies; the very same one that inspired modern-day iterations of the Caped Crusader’s all-purpose vehicle. Only this time, it doesn’t come with a prop engine like so many others. This one comes with something pretty bad ass: a turboshaft turbine engine that was sourced from a naval drone helicopter and produces an output of 385 horsepower. Pretty impressive, right?
The work comes courtesy of Casey Putsch and Putsch Racing. And in addition to adding a legitimate turbo engine, the team also dressed up the interior from its spartan-like set-up to something a little more appropriate for a car of this stature, including an Apple iPad set-up right in the middle of the car’s center console.
Needless to say, this Batmobile doesn’t come with all the heavy artillery that the Caped Crusader used Gotham City. Lack of firepower notwithstanding, the tuned-up engine still makes it one of the most formidable Batmobiles we’ve seen patrolling the streets of the world.

2012 K1 Evelio Review

Looks like the Tesla Roadster is going to have a new rival in the race for electric sports car supremacy. Unveiled at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, the K1 Evelio is the latest in what is becoming a growing number of electric sports cars looking to enter the market to give Tesla a serious run for its money.

If the car looks familiar to you, it’s because it’s based on the Slovakian sports car, the K-1 Attack Roadster, a car that has graced our pages on numerous occasions. According to the people over at K1, the K1 Evelio pretty much has the same body as the Attack Roadster, except that it has an electric powertrain as opposed to the 2.0-liter V6 engine found on the latter.
Details behind the car are still limited – the company’s website is still bare bones – but from what we’ve sourced, the K1 Evelio appears to have a body that’s made out of fiberglass while the chassis comes in a tubular steel space frame. Likewise, smaller items used on the car were crafted in aluminum.

Such a special car must present special performances, so ,depending on the engine year and added accessories, the Miami GT can be powered with either a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged Toyota MR23SGT-E engine from the 1991-1996 models or a 2.0-liter Acura RSX K20 engine from the 2002-2006 models. These powertrains offer outputs of anywhere from 200 horsepower to well over 500 horsepower and a max torque of 200-250 lb/ft while mated to a five-speed trans-axle transmission.

2012 RSC Predator GT New, and Review

German automaker, Rotary Super Cars, took some flak from a lot of people for the design of the 2012 RSC Predator GT, claiming that it looked eerily similar to the design of the Ferrari 599XX. As it turns out, RSC took those words to heart and completely rebooted their whole project, giving their car a new styling and a new name.

The latest incarnation is the 2012 RSC Predator GT, a car that looks nothing like a Ferrari now, but has a little of a Lamborghini essence. Some people might be nitpicking about this, but we’re completely on-board with the design of this new supercar, including the aggressive details on the front and back end of the car.
Despite the styling and naming overhauls, the RSC still plans on putting the same monster powertrain under their creation, one that features a Mazda 138 MSP-based four-rotor Wanel engine that produces a nauseating output of 1,184 horsepower. This engine is mated to a sequential 8-speed RSC R-SHIFT transmission controlled by a hydraulic shift system with shift times of 25-35 milliseconds. Given that RSC is planning to build the Predator GT to weigh in at only 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs), this future supercar is poised to have a 0-62 mph time of just under three seconds, putting it in the stratosphere of some of the fastest machines on the planet, including the venerable Bugatti Veyron and the equally irrepressible Koenigsegg Agera R.
RSC originally planned to introduce the prototype of the 2012 RSC Predator GT late last year, but considering all the significant changes done on the whole project, it’s a safe bet that we might have to wait a little longer for the 2012 RSC Predator GT to bare its fangs.

2012 Perana Z-One Review

2012 Perana Z-One... The Perana Z-One’s overall design was born out of the collective minds of Milanese coachbuilder, Zagato, and South African manufacturer, Perana Performance Group. The Perana Z-One reflects pure passion born out of combining traditional sports car styling with state-of-the-art aggression to create a visual of a car made for the times. The Perana Z-One’s body is accentuated by a couple of long dynamic curves that swoop down to keep edges and integrating important design elements. There’s an unmistakable Zagato-look to the car, specifically the car’s front end, which bears strong similarity to the TZ3 Stradale, another Zagato-designed sports car.

The look of Perana Z-One’s interior has yet to be divulged, although you can expect it to carry such niceties as a sat-nav system, a touch-screen infotainment system, an A/C unit, Brembo brakes, and Recaro sports seats.

Performance
The Perana Z-One is powered by a GM-sourced 6.2-liter V8 all aluminum engine that produces 442 horsepower and 430 lb/ft of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission and a ZF limited-slip differential. Official times have yet to be posted, but the South African sports car is expected to hit a time of north-to-60 mph in just under four seconds.

Pricing
Again, there’s still no official confirmation as far as how much the car is going to cost. Early estimates suggest that it could fetch for somewhere around £70,000, or a little over $110,000 based on current exchange rates.

2012 Mosler Raptor Review

US-based automaker Mosler has made a name for itself by building reconfigured race cars for street purposes. Some of these models include the MT900 GTR and the MT900 GTR XX (pictured above). Now, the niche sports car builder from Florida is reportedly in the process of developing and building a new supercar that will weigh no more than 2,000 lbs. The lightweight bullet - it’s being touted the ’Raptor’ - is poised to carry a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces around 650 horsepower.

Details surrounding the Raptor’s design are still being kept under wraps, but we don’t expect it to be too far a departure from the existing models on the company’s fleet. We do expect it to be light as a feather, though, relative to its predecessors. That enormous power-to-weight ratio should make for a supercar than can smoke the rest of its peers, allowing them to eat its proverbial dust.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest updates and development news surrounding Mosler and the new Raptor sports car when it becomes available.
