New Citroen Tubik: the A-Team van for the future

With the launch of its Mulicity portal, CITROËN established itself as a facilitator of mobility. Today, continuing its research in this field, it is exploring a new area. Drawing upon its expertise and the best “Créative Technologie”, CITROËN has developed Tubik, a high-tech executive shuttle based on one key idea: travel should be fun. Come with us on a shared, intelligent, connected and eco-friendly journey!

Today, it is journey time rather than distance that is important. In the modern world, information travels faster than people, the same journey can be made using a multitude of different means of transport, and consumers are looking first and foremost for an easy way of getting around. In consequence, the challenge for vehicle manufacturers is to develop solutions tailored to the mobility issues of the future. The Multicity project is the result of studies carried out by CITROËN on mobility. This project is already a reality with the launch in France of CITROËN Multicity, an online portal and routefinder that covers all available means of transport (car, train, plane, etc.) to make travelling easier.

Today, the Multicity project is moving into its next phase with a new solution: Tubik, a concept car designed to make travel meaningful again.

Citroen and Arsenal extend your partnership

Citroën is strengthening its partnership with Arsenal Football Club, as the Club’s Official Automotive Partner, in a new three year extension to the existing agreement.

In addition to a significant branding presence around Emirates Stadium, Citroën will develop its integrated partnership programme, with new marketing, digital, dealer and promotional activities. As part of its expanded relationship, Citroën will also be promoting its association with Arsenal outside the UK, within Europe and China.

Retaining the use of Citroën’s squad of talented vehicles, coaches and staff will benefit from recently introduced models such as the non-conformist New Citroën DS4, the New Citroën C4 and the instantly recognisable Citroën DS3 - Top Gear Magazine’s Car of the Year.

Citroën’s highly versatile LCV line-up will be used to transport training equipment around the country, as well as supporting the Club’s community outreach programmes.

Linda Jackson, Managing Director at Citroën UK, commented; “Teaming up with Arsenal Football Club for another three years will allow us to develop and build on our positive association with one of the most successful English football clubs of the modern era. Citroën is recognised for creativity, distinctive style and ambition, and we’re proud to be supporting a team like Arsenal that shares those same values.”

Vinai Venkatesham, Head of Global Partnerships at Arsenal Football Club, added: “We are delighted to be renewing with Citroën. Given the strength of our relationship, it was only natural that both parties wanted to extend and expand this successful affiliation further. Citroën has brought a huge amount of enthusiasm to the partnership since 2008 and played a very supportive role in our Charity and community projects; we hope to see that continue. It’s also an exciting time to be working with them as they continue to roll-out their award winning DS range, and we look forward to developing a number of joint initiatives to run throughout Europe and China.”

Citroën has worked with Arsenal on a number of projects during the last three years, creating the Ultimate Fan’s Car with cartoonist Gerald Scarfe in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. Earlier this year, Citroën worked with radio-control car artist Ian Cook and members of the Arsenal first-team to produce a painting that was auctioned in aid of the Club’s 2010/11 Charity of the Season, Centrepoint. Citroën also introduced an Advanced Driver Training Programme for Arsenal’s young reserve team players to increase their awareness and safety behind the wheel.

Citroen 2011

Citroen History

Andre Citroen founded the company he named after himself, "Citroen", in 1919. The French company became the first mass automaker outside of America to have any mass market success, with simple designs which served the growing automobile market well. Also credited with the production of the worlds ever first front wheel drive car, the Citroen Traction Avant in 1934, Citroen has been a front leader in innovative and uncommon designs, although remaining efficient in producing mass market cars which sold well. The French based company, innovative in itself for being the first European mass market car manufacture, was later formed into the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, which has its headquarters in Paris.
It was common for automobile manufactures to switch production from cars to military hardware for the campaign in World War One, often switching back to automobile production after the world war had ceased. Andre Citroens story is slightly different, however; with the Frenchmen deciding to build cars post World War One, after he had no use for his factory after the war. Citroen, the man not the company, originally built military wear for France during the World War, but found himself with no business after the war had finished. With a factory in his possession, Citroen began to produce cars, with the newly designed (by Le Zebre) type A. The type A was the first production car by Citroen, and within its two year production life had outputted over twenty four thousand units. Originally selling for close to eight thousand francs, the price was lifted to twelve and a half thousand francs just one year later. With the number of units being produced, around one hundred per day, Citroen had established itself as the first European mass market car manufacture.

In later years of the nineteen twenties, Citroen teamed up with the pioneer, Budd, an American engineer, who worked on stainless steel bodies for railroad cars originally, but then contracted to automakers to do the same. Many car manufactures of the time, including Citroen, received steel bodies which were manufactured by Edward Budd, with the Citroen steel bodied cars believed to be the first outside of America.

Citroen believed heavily upon the promotion of the brand, with the iconic and large Eiffel Tower in Paris lit up with the word "CITROEN" between 1925 and 1934, a marketing method to epic promotions in its day. Citroen cars continued to sell well, although many other car producers began to switch and upgrade their body designs after switching from wood to steel, leaving Citroen was very basic and slightly dated designs. The low price of the cars ensured mass units were still sold, although the company began to experience losses. The development of the innovative Traction Avant, the first front wheel drive car, spurred the company onwards, with the succession of new models.
